The Caterer Awards celebrate the most innovative businesses and products in the hospitality supply chain. Nineteen trophies, including Drinks Brand of the Year and Warewasher Brand of the Year, were presented in front of an audience of hospitality suppliers.
An expert panel of hospitality operators judged the shortlist and picked the winners, giving suppliers a chance to get their brands in front of some top industry names. Winners included the Burnt Chef Project for Community Campaign of the Year and Maldon Salt, which won Food Brand of the Year.
Clare Nicholls, product and suppliers reporter at The Caterer, who presented the awards, said: "Our new format Suppliers Awards really sparkled—it was a joyous event that celebrated the hospitality industry supply chain's operator outreach and innovation. Congratulations to all of our worthy winners, and I look forward to next year's event, when I'm sure the entry quality will be just as high."
Meiko UK Managing Director Paul Anderson said, “The team at Meiko UK were absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for the prestigious Caterer Awards, Warewasher Brand of the Year. But then to go and win it! Wow!
“I am so proud of our team for ensuring we remain at the forefront of supporting our industry with the very best in Clean Solutions.
“We listen to and learn from our customers and have devoted increasing resources to meet our pledge to provide them with sustainability training support for the lifetime of their Meiko machines. We all need to take a more proactive approach to ensure our customers use the tools we give them in the most sustainable way.
“Thank you to The Caterer for their excellent job organising the awards. We are proud to stand alongside our industry colleagues and to have all our efforts to increase the sustainability of ourselves and our customers recognised. We can make the world a better place!
“I am a very happy and proud man. Fantastic result for the entire team at MEIKO UK.”
Meiko won this award in a closely fought race because it focused on how customers use its machines.
For instance, when its customers asked for shorter wash programmes for lightly soiled ware, Meiko supplied the new PF-S pot washer, where the short wash and partial water change programmes save water, energy and chemicals.
Focusing on customers’ dishwashing problems and how to fix them also led to the development of the weighted chain grid on the Meiko PF-S pot washer. Customers had reported that lightweight pots and plastic tubs were moving around during the cycle, so the hold-down chain fits any shape of pot and keeps them secure.
The PF-S is manufactured to use minimum resources for its maximum working life, designed, as all Meiko’s machines are, to run sustainably for their lifetime. The company is also committed to becoming carbon-neutral at its factory in 2025.
Meiko has put into practice its commitment to sustainable dishwashing by providing support via online tools and face-to-face training for the lifetime of its customers' dishwashers. Meiko has extended training availability from year one to 10, a major commitment that sees Meiko regional sales managers spending half their time training.
